The return of V8 engines to Formula 1 received essential support: Stefano Domenicali. The CEO pointed out that he is fully in favor of adopting the power units again.

The topic of the power units has sparked many debates this 2026 season, especially with the regulation change. Drivers have been quite critical of the fact that the engines are 50% electric power and 50% internal combustion, and for 2027 there will already be a change with the ratio becoming 60% and 40%.
Not only that, talks are underway to bring the V8 back from 2030, as pointed out by Mohammed Ben Sulayem, FIA president. And the CEO of Formula 1 supports the decision. “1000% in favor of the V8,” he said, before describing lighter cars and simpler engines as “the pure essence of motorsport.”

Domenicali has defended the new set of category rules and in Miami he even said that “the regulations are what they are and are constantly evolving, but that has always been part of Formula 1. Together with all parties involved in drafting the regulations, we try to take into account trends and constantly changing developments, but now we are focused on the fact that the races are really exciting… I am happy with the moment we are living.”
