Max Verstappen made a point of making a small joke about McLaren’s wrong strategy in choosing tires for the start of the Canadian GP of Formula 1.

The British team chose to put intermediate compounds on both Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, surprising many in the paddock. Starting at the front, the current champion briefly took the lead, but shortly after the duo had to go to the pits to put on slick tires.
So, when the four-time Red Bull champion was asked about McLaren’s bet, he responded with humor. “It was a great choice. I thought: ‘Thank you’.”

Verstappen managed to capitalize on both McLaren drivers, as well as George Russell’s retirement. After an intense fight with Lewis Hamilton, he finished in third place, his first podium of the championship.
