Lewis Hamilton told how he asked Pirelli, the Formula 1 tire supplier, to try using a tire warmer for extreme wet compounds after going through a painful test at Fiorano.

In April, the Brit spent two days at Ferrari’s test track to participate in a test of the Italian manufacturer’s wet weather tires. The activity was part of the test days that the brand can hire a team for, which cannot use updates and must follow the plan set by Pirelli.
Hamilton then explained that he had asked for the extreme wet tires to be equipped with protective blankets, removed in 2023. “Fiorano was painful because it was 300 laps in two days,” he said.

“They made a change to the blankets for the intermediate tires, and that was something I suggested and insisted on, and it was amazing. It was great to see them take that step, and I also said they need to put the blankets back on the extreme wet tires when conditions are extremely slippery,” he continued.

“I asked them to put them back, and it was much better,” he concluded.
