Representatives from the FIA (International Automobile Federation), Formula 1, teams, and engine manufacturers have a meeting scheduled for Friday (8) to discuss the initial results observed after the introduction of adjustments to the 2026 regulations, implemented at the Miami GP held last weekend. The meeting is expected to address the initial impacts of the changes and also evaluate how the category should act if further adjustments are necessary. The regulation revisions were promoted by the FIA during the April break and had the main objectives of enhancing safety and making the drivers’ experience more satisfying during qualifying sessions.
Among the adopted changes is the reduction of recoverable energy available in qualifying, which dropped from 8 MJ to 7 MJ. The so-called “boost effect” used in races was also reduced, while the “super clipping” limit was increased from 250 kW to 350 kW.
Another implemented measure involves a new “low power start detection” system. The technology was created to identify cars that exhibit excessively slow acceleration immediately after clutch release at starts.

The FIA also made changes related to tires. The temperature of the intermediate compound blankets was raised to prevent loss of grip when drivers leave the pits with new tires in adverse conditions.
Still focusing on safety and control, the electrical power of the cars was reduced. The rear lights were also redesigned to become brighter and more visible in low visibility situations.
Although some critics advocated for deeper changes, the prevailing perception after the first weekend using the new rules is that the category has moved in the right direction and managed to make on-track action more natural.
