F1: Bortoleto comments on his relationship with Verstappen

Gabriel Bortoleto revealed details about his relationship with Max Verstappen. The Brazilian described the four-time Formula 1 world champion as a mentor and highlighted the constant support both on and off the track.

The connection between the two dates back to before Bortoleto’s arrival in the top tier of motorsport, which reinforces the influence of the Red Bull Racing driver on his career. Even now as competitors, the bond remains close.

In an interview with the Pitstop podcast, the Audi driver explained how the relationship began in the junior categories: “I see Max a bit as a mentor in my career, not only in F1 but also before, when I was in F3,” he said. He added that the Dutchman remains approachable: “He keeps answering all my questions and doubts.”

Although they compete in the same category, Bortoleto acknowledges that the current scenario does not yet put the two in direct confrontation for bigger goals: “Obviously, we are competing against each other now, but he has achieved so much in his career. He doesn’t see me as a threat,” he said.

The Brazilian driver also indicated that this dynamic could change in the future if both compete for higher positions: “I’m sure that on the day we fight for a title, it could be different,” he added. Still, he emphasized the personal side of the relationship, highlighting that Verstappen remains a good friend with whom he also shares moments off the track, including in simulator championships.
