Fernando Alonso stated that he intends to define his future in Formula 1 by mid-year, in a decision directly related to his possible retirement.

The Aston Martin driver has not yet started formal discussions about contract renewal or retirement, despite experiencing a very difficult start to the season. The team faces reliability issues with the Honda power unit and the chassis itself, which has directly impacted results in the early stages.
“I haven’t started thinking about the future yet,” Alonso said. The Spaniard revealed that he maintains frequent conversations with the team, but the focus has been on the present. “We talk regularly, but we haven’t discussed the future in depth. We are aligned, but thinking more about now,” he said.

Even so, the two-time Formula 1 world champion knows that the decision cannot be postponed indefinitely. According to him, the decision should happen by mid-year. Alonso emphasized that he intends to evaluate the situation calmly, including conversations with his family and close people before deciding his next steps.
The Spanish driver also indicated that if he leaves F1, he does not intend to step away from racing. He mentioned possibilities such as the Dakar, endurance races, and even a return to Le Mans: “When I stop in Formula 1, I will continue racing in some way,” he said. Additionally, Alonso signaled that he may maintain a link with Aston Martin in some other role in the future.
