Laurent Mekies tried to put an end to the rumors about Max Verstappen’s future in Formula 1. The Red Bull chief stated that departures of team members will not influence the decision to stay with the team.

The Dutchman has made numerous criticisms about the 2026 season regulations, even saying he was quite dissatisfied and questioning his continuation on the grid after this year.
The rumors of a departure gained even more strength with Gianpiero Lambiase’s farewell at the end of 2027, but Mekies was firm in his response when asked if Verstappen will leave F1 or Red Bull.

“No way. That is my direct answer. Obviously, we talk to Max every day. And Max knows motorsport like the back of his hand,” he said.
“He lives and breathes this team. He knows most of these guys. He understands very well the dynamics that can happen. The team has been extremely successful and you can’t promote everyone. And some people make certain decisions,” he added.
