Johnny Herbert made a brief assessment of Lewis Hamilton and pointed out that the seven-time Formula 1 champion should be honest with himself when considering the timeline for his retirement.

The Ferrari driver is in his 20th season in the category, but has recently been going through a difficult period. After signing with the Scuderia in 2025, he suffered in a championship below expectations and finished without a single podium.
In 2026, however, with the change in regulations, the scenario is changing and he has already finished third in China, the second stage. However, Herbert commented that if he were close to Hamilton, he would advise him to sincerely evaluate his situation.

“If I were close to him, I would probably tell him to be honest, because there comes a point where things won’t be as easy as before. His competitiveness probably won’t be the same,” he said.
“There comes a time when you need to think: ‘It’s not like it used to be, and I need to stop. I’ve had my time.’ He’s also playing with a younger teammate, who represents the next generation we’ve seen, and that will always exist. For me, I think it’s simply being honest with yourself and, when you need to, say: ‘I need to hang up my boots’,” he concluded.
