Formula 1 is set to gain improvements with the recent adjustments to the 2026 regulations. Oscar Piastri expressed confidence that the changes will correct problems seen in the first three races of this year.

These changes were approved by the FIA after difficulties faced at the start of the season, including limitations for driving at the limit in qualifying sessions and dangerous speed differences. Situations like the incident between Oliver Bearman and Franco Colapinto in Japan reinforced the need for adjustments.
Piastri highlighted that the expectation is to reduce the influence of these limitations on fast laps: “There should be less impact in qualifying sessions and, with the increased power of ‘superclipping’, the affected period will be shorter. I think it’s a step in the right direction,” he stated.

The McLaren driver also commented on changes in the use of ‘boost’ and energy recovery, pointing out possible unexpected effects, but evaluating the package as positive: “There may still be some different situations with the power button, but overall it’s going in the right direction. Reducing the recovery limit and providing more flexibility helps,” he added.
Despite the optimism, Piastri emphasized that the real impact will only be understood over the next few races. According to him, problems vary from track to track, as seen between China, Australia, and Japan, which makes the evaluation more complex even with the implemented updates.
