The FIA has implemented an important change for the Formula 1 Miami GP weekend. This Thursday (23), the entity confirmed that it will extend the first free practice session by 30 minutes, totaling 90 minutes.

The United States round marks the return of the 2026 season after a 35-day break without races. It will also host the second Sprint race of the calendar, without the TL2 and TL3 sessions, and with the changes to this year’s regulations, the governing body opted to increase the duration of the single free practice session.

After consulting with all stakeholders, the FIA informed that, as a result, the session will take place between 12:00 PM and 1:30 PM local time – starting at 1:30 PM Brasília time. All other track sessions will be moved forward by 30 minutes.

“This decision was made taking into account the interval since the last GP, the recently announced regulatory and technical adjustments, and the fact that the Miami GP operates in a sprint format, which reduces the practice time available throughout the weekend,” the entity informed.
