The FIA has initiated discussions considered decisive regarding the 2026 Formula 1 regulations, and has already indicated possible adjustments following the first meeting with teams and power unit manufacturers, held this Thursday (09). The meeting marks the beginning of a series of talks that could result in significant changes even during the current season.

These meetings have gained even more relevance due to concerns raised in the first races of the year, especially regarding qualifying sessions and the safety of the new power unit rules. The topic gained even more prominence after the heavy crash of Haas’s Oliver Bearman at the recent Japanese GP, which broadened the debate on potential risks of the new regulations.
Initially, the meetings were scheduled to take place after the initial phase of the 2026 season. However, the postponement of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabian GPs created an unexpected break in the calendar, allowing the FIA and the teams to bring forward important discussions about the future of the rules.
In a statement after the first meeting held today, the FIA confirmed that the meeting brought together technical experts from the teams and power unit manufacturers to discuss possible changes. According to the entity, the debate addressed various topics related to the natural evolution of the technical and sporting regulations introduced this season.
Also according to the FIA, there was a consensus that the races have been exciting so far, but also a collective commitment to evaluate adjustments, particularly in the area of energy management. The entity highlighted that the dialogue was constructive, even in the face of the competitive nature between the parties involved.

The governing body of motorsport also confirmed the schedule for the upcoming meetings. A meeting on the sporting regulations is scheduled for April 15, when any changes necessary to enable technical alterations will be discussed. A new technical session will take place on April 16, continuing the topics addressed and including new points.
Additionally, a high-level meeting with representatives from all parties involved is planned for April 20. In this meeting, a consensus will be sought on the preferred options proposed by the technical teams and the next steps for the regulations.
It was also highlighted by the FIA that the 2026 rules were developed in collaboration with teams, manufacturers, power unit suppliers, and commercial rights holders. Any future changes, however, will still depend on the final approval of the World Motor Sport Council.
