Kimi Antonelli sees areas where Mercedes can improve after the first Formula 1 races in 2026. Even with the lead in the Drivers’ and Constructors’ World Championships, the German team still has potential for more gains.

In the three rounds held so far, the team has taken victory in all of them, one with George Russell in Australia and the other two with Kimi Antonelli in China and Japan. As a result, the Italian is the championship leader with a nine-point advantage over his teammate.
But despite the good results so far, it is wrong to think that Mercedes is perfect in all areas, and Antonelli pointed out where they could improve. “Difficult. I think our car is very good,” the young Italian began.

“For sure, maybe at the start, but I think… I mean, [at Suzuka] it was totally my fault. But together, George and I, we have been facing more difficulties than we anticipated since the start of the season, and McLaren made a very good start, so they are clearly doing something better, certainly also in terms of driving,” he continued.
“In that case, Oscar [Piastri] did much better than me because… I can’t say, but I ‘messed’ everything up badly. But yes, I need to keep working on that area,” the championship leader concluded.
