Sergio Pérez has been feeling positive about the direction Cadillac has been following at the start of the 2026 Formula 1 season. Despite acknowledging work to be done, he pointed out that the team has shown good signs of progress.

The United States team is making its debut in this championship. Although still a bit distant from the competitors ahead, it already managed to leave Aston Martin behind in last weekend’s Japanese GP.

Taking stock, he emphasized that the main issue to be addressed is the increase in downforce. “I think there are many areas, but at the moment the main one is load, that’s where we need to improve the most. The balance itself isn’t too bad – the problem is the load,” he said.

But despite this, Pérez already sees evolution and steps taken by the American team at the start of the season. “Yes, for sure. I think I could see encouraging signs,” he noted.
“I think there is still work to be done with the downforce distribution. I noticed that some teams were distributing it differently than ours. Something for us to work on. But I think the main thing is that we need more downforce. And obviously, we will take the update to Miami, and that will be our biggest test.”
