Williams saw evolution throughout the day of Formula 1 training at the Japanese GP on Friday (27). After a very complicated first session, Alexander Albon and Carlos Sainz climbed the standings to finish inside the top-15 in FP2.

The British team’s duo managed to complete 108 laps total between the two activities in Suzuka. The one who finished ahead was the Anglo-Thai driver, eighth in FP2 with a time of 1min41s496.
“Friday is over. I think it was a more positive day today than the last two weekends. We have to be realistic and I think we are a little better than we will be tomorrow, but at least the car is better. We corrected some issues and, also with the setup, we found something a little more interesting in FP2. We are progressing little by little and going in the right direction”, he said.

Meanwhile, the Spaniard ended the day in Japan in 13th after being 18th in FP1, showing an improvement in Williams’ form throughout the day.
“It was difficult to extract everything from the car today, but we had decent pace in race simulations during FP2. It seems we are more competitive on quick laps, but we are struggling with race pace in simulations with a lot of fuel. Tonight, we will analyze what we can change in the setup to find some performance and we hope to progress before qualifying.”
