Ayao Komatsu showed himself to be on Formula 1’s side when it comes to the new regulations. The Haas boss pointed out that it is necessary to ignore the drivers’ criticisms and have patience before applying any changes to the new rules.

This season, the category introduced a series of changes to the regulations, from the chassis to the racing style and engines, which are half electric power and half internal combustion.
This generated a huge number of complaints from drivers like Sergio Pérez, Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen, the latter being the most vocal regarding his dissatisfaction with all the changes applied this year.
For Komatsu, F1 needs more rounds before the Chinese race this weekend, with Japan, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Miami in the next stops – although Sakhir and Jeddah are still an unknown.

“It’s about five races, speaking very, very roughly. [number of GPs that should be considered before applying changes]. Let’s forget whether these two circuits happen or not. Melbourne, a circuit with a lot of front limitation, difficult to overtake. Shanghai, much easier to recover energy, very, very long straight – overtaking should be possible,” he said.
“Suzuka, again, I think it’s quite difficult, but overtaking is traditionally very difficult, and Bahrain, a circuit with rear limitation, easier, much easier to overtake. Jeddah, a totally different story, and then we have Miami. So, if we have these circuits, I think we will have a sufficient sample to make a good decision,” he added.
