Rafael Câmara is very close to being confirmed as the new main driver for Haas for the 2027 Formula 1 season. According to information from GPblog, there is currently a 90% chance that the Brazilian will replace Esteban Ocon next year, although the agreement is not yet fully finalized.

Haas was evaluating three main candidates for the seat: Leonardo Fornaroli, Ryo Hirakawa, and Câmara. Jack Doohan also tested for the team, but was never actually among the names considered to take the position.
Fornaroli, current Formula 2 champion and McLaren reserve driver, was reportedly discarded after a test in Portimão, while Hirakawa, 32 years old, was also not chosen. The Japanese driver was considered Toyota’s dream candidate, Haas’s technical partner. However, the American team would have opted for the 21-year-old Brazilian.

With the possible signing of Câmara, Haas would have two drivers linked to Ferrari in 2027. Oliver Bearman is expected to remain for another season, although his future has not yet been officially announced. The agreement with Câmara also has no confirmed announcement date, but the São Paulo GP, in early November, appears as a possible moment for this to happen.
Câmara gained prominence in 2025, when he won four races in Formula 3 and secured the title with one round to spare. The Brazilian also set a category record by achieving five poles. In 2026, he debuted in Formula 2 with Invicta Racing and continues to compete for the championship, currently in second place with 170 points, just seven points behind Nikola Tsolov, as well as having two wins and other podiums this season.
