George Russell detailed the ‘annoying’ mistake he made during qualifying for the Formula 1 Spanish GP that hindered his performance and secured only sixth position on the grid.

The British Mercedes driver will line up only in the third row for the Spanish GP, while his teammate Kimi Antonelli starts second, losing pole by just 0.011 seconds to Lando Norris.
Speaking about his fast lap, Russell pointed out that he lost time at turn 11, which cost him a better position. “No, I don’t think so,” he said when asked if the touch on the wall had caused any damage.

“Obviously, it was a bit worrying at the time, but the car was fine. I got back on track, led the session shortly after, and felt I was competitive afterwards.”
“But on the last lap, I was about 0.3 seconds faster and, at Turn 11, the tires didn’t hold up. I lost all the lap time from there on, which was frustrating. It’s a strange [track surface]; it has a lot of grip, but the tires are sliding quite a bit, so [the race] will be really interesting because of the tire degradation,” he added.
