The FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile) warned Alex Albon after the Williams driver was involved in an incident with Arvid Lindblad during the first free practice of the Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix, held on the morning of this Friday (11).

The incident happened at Turn 6, when Albon left the track and returned in a manner considered not cautious enough by the stewards. He had been warned over the radio about Lindblad’s approach and was monitoring the rival through the mirrors. In an attempt not to hinder the Racing Bulls driver, he accelerated and crossed the track via the escape area. After analyzing videos, onboard footage, and hearing from the drivers and team representatives, the FIA concluded that he could have been more careful.
The verdict stated: “The Stewards heard from Car 23 driver (Alexander Albon), Car 41 driver (Arvid Lindblad), team representatives and reviewed video and onboard footage evidence. The Car 23 driver stated at the hearing that he was informed about the approach of Car 41 and therefore continuously checked his mirrors.”
“But in doing so, he failed to take an appropriate line to remain to the right of the yellow line in the escape area. Approaching the edge of the track, he decided to accelerate and cross the track as quickly as possible to avoid interfering with Car 41.”

“The Stewards determine that, although he took reasonable steps not to impede Car 41, the Car 23 driver could have been more cautious and attentive in his path through the escape area and when returning to the track.”
The day in Madrid ended with Lindblad crashing into one of the barriers in FP2. Formula 1 resumes its activities on Saturday, with free practice 3 and qualifying.
