F1: After official departure from Red Bull, Skinner has a clear path to Cadillac

Craig Skinner has officially ended his relationship with Red Bull Racing, leaving behind the mandatory cooling-off period after his departure from the team. The British designer is now free to take on a new role with another Formula 1 team, and Cadillac appears to be the most likely destination.

Skinner left Red Bull earlier this year, after more than two decades in Milton Keynes. In recent years, he held the position of head of design and was involved during the period when Max Verstappen won three consecutive drivers’ titles, between 2022 and 2024.

The Briton’s departure was considered surprising, but his track record sparked interest from other teams. During the Dutch GP weekend, GPblog reported that Cadillac was trying to secure Skinner’s signing and was already holding advanced talks with the experienced designer.

Another team that also showed interest was Alpine, but Skinner would be more inclined to a move to Cadillac. With the definitive end of his relationship with Red Bull, the ‘gardening leave’ period no longer exists, which prevented the Briton from immediately starting a new professional phase.

The possible arrival would strengthen Cadillac’s plans to build a competitive structure with experienced F1 professionals. The American project is also considering hiring Paul Monaghan, Red Bull’s chief engineer, who remains an option for the new team. Red Bull would like to keep Monaghan, but Cadillac is reportedly offering higher pay and a higher position within the team’s hierarchy.
