Oscar Piastri was summoned by the FIA stewards after the qualifying session of the Italian Grand Prix in Formula 1 for a possible obstruction of Liam Lawson at Turn 1 in Monza. The case could jeopardize the third place secured by the McLaren driver on the grid.

The incident occurred during Q2, when Lawson was preparing for his last attempt. The New Zealander was eventually eliminated and reacted with irritation over the radio, criticizing his own team for how he was released onto the track: “This is really bad! I can’t believe how you left me completely exposed!”
After the session, the FIA confirmed that Piastri and Lawson were called to provide clarifications about the episode at Turn 1. The investigation involves a possible violation of article B4.1.1 of the Formula 1 regulations.

If the stewards determine that there was obstruction during qualifying, Piastri could receive a three-place grid penalty for Sunday’s race. The Australian finished the session in third, but his position remains under review until the official decision.
Lawson, in turn, was unable to advance to Q3 after the incident. The qualifying ended with a surprising pole position for Pierre Gasly of Alpine, while the case between Piastri and the Red Bull driver remained one of the main pending issues after the session.
