Having a Ferrari F40 was a long-standing wish of Lewis Hamilton. The seven-time Formula 1 world champion turned this dream into reality after recovering a specimen of the iconic Ferrari road car that had been sitting for more than three decades covered in dust in a garage.

The driver shared on Monday (31), on social media, images of the newly restored F40 and details of the work done on the vehicle. The restoration took place in Maranello, where engineers and mechanics from the Ferrari factory dedicated weeks to the project to return the car to working condition.

Hamilton’s relationship with the model, according to the Ferrari driver himself, goes back to childhood. He says he dreamed of having an F40 when he was a child and that, upon joining Ferrari last year, he made sure to bring the desire to Maranello: “My own F40. This is the car of my dreams and always has been, for as long as I can remember. As a child, I dreamed of having one. When I joined Ferrari last year, I made sure to have one with me on my first day in Maranello. That’s how much it means to me.”

“These cars are works of art and incredibly rare, so when I found this one, covered in dust after sitting for more than thirty years in a garage, I knew I had to bring it home.
