Valtteri Bottas made a brief analysis of Cadillac’s moment in the 2026 Formula 1 season and said that some changes needed to be made to get out of stagnation.

During the category’s summer break, the debut team made the surprising announcement of the team principal change. Graeme Lowdon left the position after just 11 rounds, with Marcin Budkowski taking over the role for the second half of the calendar.
Commenting on the whole situation and the team’s presence in the F1 pack, the Finn stated that something needed to change. “Some problems we faced had been dragging on, but maybe I didn’t expect the change to be so big. I expected, perhaps, that there would be more movement in the factory and things like that,” he said.

“We, the drivers, sometimes don’t see what needs to be changed in these aspects, as we are obviously very focused on driving, performance, and providing our feedback. We are not the ones who structure the team. That is not our role,” he continued.
One issue that Cadillac has been facing for some time in F1 in 2026 is brake overheating, which also resulted in several retirements. Therefore, for the driver, perhaps a lack of solution may have contributed to the dismissal. “I also think that the American style can be a bit more reactive and abrupt than the European way of leading a team. I don’t believe they are afraid to suddenly change people if they realize that it can be beneficial for the future,” he concluded.
