Ralf Schumacher suffered an accident during a jet ski competition and will need to undergo surgery. The former Formula 1 driver was initially diagnosed only with a shoulder dislocation, but exams also revealed a bone fracture.

The accident happened on Saturday, during the jet ski championship promoted by the German Sky presenter, Stefan Raab, in Duisburg. Schumacher was participating in the team competition alongside Raab when they both fell into the water after hitting a buoy.
The duo managed to get back on the vehicle, but Schumacher took off before Raab was fully repositioned, causing a second fall. When trying to get back on the jet ski, the former driver realized something was wrong with his shoulder.
“My shoulder dislocated when I tried to turn the jet ski too quickly,” Schumacher explained during the live broadcast on Sky. After the accident, a doctor put the shoulder back in place, and the German thanked the team that quickly got him out of the water. At that moment, he believed the problem was just a dislocation.

However, an X-ray performed on Saturday night and an MRI on Sunday brought worse news: “I thought it was just a shoulder dislocation, or a dislocated shoulder, but unfortunately a piece of bone also broke,” revealed Schumacher, who will now have to undergo a minor surgery.
Despite the injury, the former driver hopes to fulfill his role as a commentator for German Sky at the Italian GP in Monza: “The surgery will be quick and then I should also be back in Monza. I just need to hold my microphone with my left hand!”, he joked.
Schumacher also stated that he does not regret participating in the event and dismissed any blame on the organizers: “It was an amazing and very fun event. If they do it again, I will definitely be there,” he added. About the accident, the German commented with good humor: “Maybe I’m just too old for this crap,” he ended laughing.
