The announcement of the four-time world champion’s renewal ended months of speculation about a possible departure from the Austrian team for a new challenge, with McLaren appearing among the options after rumors about Mercedes cooled down.
Then, before last week’s Dutch GP, the renewal was confirmed – the current contract was until the end of 2028. “The negotiations have been very good, between Oliver [Mintzlaff, managing director of Red Bull GmbH], of course, with Laurent, the shareholders,” he said.

“When you work together for a long time, you know each other very well. That’s why there was no immediate rush either, and that’s why I also never had anything to say, because step by step we were getting closer.”
“As for me, I never really got stressed about it. That’s why, for me, those earlier questions… I say what I mean. Otherwise, I say nothing. So, it doesn’t really change anything. But at least for the team, now we can simply focus on the future, the coming years, and keep moving forward together,” he added.
