Laurent Mekies made a point of praising the work done by Liam Lawson at the Formula 1 Dutch GP, where he had to defend Red Bull by replacing Isack Hadjar.

The New Zealander was hastily called up for the race in Zandvoort after the French regular broke his wrist in a summer holiday practice. As a result, he raced alongside Max Verstappen, while Yuki Tsunoda was called to defend the Racing Bulls.
Lawson started from eighth position, but after a heavy crash by the four-time champion still in the first lap, he crossed the finish line in seventh. With the work done, Mekies showed himself satisfied with the competitor.

“It is very difficult nowadays to switch from one team to another, so I think Liam did what he could,” he told Sky Sports F1.
“He obviously did a very good job in yesterday’s qualifying, being just 0.1 seconds behind Max; today, his race was a bit lonely. We don’t have Max as a reference, so, you know, you can’t really assess the pace, but he earned the points, the points for seventh place, and that was probably the best he could have done today,” he added.
