Fernando Alonso has not yet decided whether he will continue on the Formula 1 grid in 2027, and Aston Martin has adopted a wait-and-see stance regarding the Spanish driver’s choice. The team says it is confident of a positive outcome but acknowledges that the decision is up to the two-time world champion.

Alonso had indicated that he would use the August break to reflect on the continuation of his career, but there has been no official announcement yet. The uncertainty comes amid a difficult season for Aston Martin, which has faced many competitiveness challenges and remains in the last positions.
Even in this scenario, the team maintains as a priority the retention of the experienced driver. Mike Krack, Aston Martin’s track director, stated that the goal remains to continue with Alonso but emphasized that the process needs to respect the Spaniard’s timing.
“We have always said that the focus is to continue with Fernando. We are quite confident that we will reach a good result. On the other hand, we also need to respect Fernando’s search to make his own decision and we have to wait for that,” Krack said.

Honda, the power unit supplier for Aston Martin, is also working to improve its prospects. After an update introduced in Zandvoort, the Japanese manufacturer maintains a development plan aimed at 2027 and 2028.
Shintaro Orihara, Honda’s chief engineer in F1, said the goal is to make a performance leap in 2027, although he avoided promising that the team will immediately be among the frontrunners: “I’m not saying we will be a top contender immediately in 2027, but we will have some big steps,” he added.
Orihara also said that Honda intends to confirm on track whether the chosen development direction is correct. Alonso, for his part, has already made it clear that the car’s competitiveness is not the main factor in his decision, leaving the definition of his future open.
