George Russell secured pole position for the Sprint race at the Dutch Grand Prix of Formula 1 and praises the achievement after a rather difficult first half of the championship.

The British Mercedes driver returned in the best way from the summer break and immediately secured his third Sprint pole of the 2026 season, beating Lando Norris and Charles Leclerc in Zandvoort.
“It’s great to be back here after the break. It’s a circuit I really love and that demands a lot of commitment. Obviously, the end of the first half of the year was tough. We’re very happy to be back. It had been a while since I participated in one of these interviews, so yes, it was good,” he said.

“The lap was very good, to be honest. Everything came together well. It’s always tricky in these sprint race qualifying sessions when you only have one attempt with the soft tires. The track always evolves. The grip improves, but everything worked out. The McLarens look fast, Ferrari looks fast, but I’m very happy to have gotten the result at the right time.”
