Liam Lawson is experiencing one of his best phases in Formula 1, but he rejects the idea that he is trying to overcome ‘ghosts’ from his time at Red Bull Racing. The Racing Bulls driver states that the episode is in the past and that his focus is entirely on the current season.

After eleven rounds held this year, Lawson is in ninth place in the championship, with 43 points, and has scored points in eight race weekends. The two sixth places achieved in Monaco and Silverstone also helped Racing Bulls reach fifth place among the teams halfway through the season.
The current moment contrasts with the beginning of 2025, when Lawson was promoted to Red Bull Racing to race alongside Max Verstappen, but lost the spot after just two rounds, being replaced by Yuki Tsunoda. Asked by PlanetF1 if his current campaign had helped him leave that period behind, the New Zealander dismissed that interpretation.
“Honestly, no, not really. I don’t think much about what people thought last year or anything like that. I’m very focused on where I am now, making sure I have a good season and trying, obviously, to have a future in Formula 1 and work towards the same goal we’re all working towards,” Lawson said.

He continued, saying he sees that stint as a difficult but important experience for his development: “I had a tough season. But I learned a huge amount from it, and honestly, I came out of it as a much stronger driver and person,” he added.
Lawson now intends to turn the lessons learned into consistency, while Racing Bulls continue scoring frequently in the midfield pack: “At the moment, things are going very, very well, and that’s what we’re focused on, trying to maintain that consistency. It’s probably the hardest thing in Formula 1, maintaining that consistency, especially in the midfield pack, where you’re always in the middle of all the action,” he concluded.
