Williams confirmed on Tuesday (18), before the Dutch GP, that Alexander Albon will continue as the team’s driver in 2027.

Albon joined Williams in 2022, after a year away as Red Bull’s reserve driver. Since then, the Thai driver has been part of the team’s rebuilding project, which finished last year’s Constructors’ Championship in fifth place.
Despite the tougher season in 2026, Albon reaffirmed his commitment to Williams: “Since I joined Williams in 2022, the transformation this team has undergone is hard to put into words,” he commented.
“A tough year doesn’t tell the whole story, and it only gives me more motivation to keep building and fighting alongside the factory and our fans to achieve great things. Our story is not over yet, so my full focus now is to do whatever it takes to get us back on the grid.”
Team principal James Vowles celebrated the renewal and highlighted the driver’s importance to the project: “I’m very happy that Alex and the Atlassian Williams F1 Team are continuing our extraordinary journey together. Alex has been a leader of this transformation project from day one and we have many unfinished goals that we are determined to achieve.”

“Alex is one of the best drivers on the grid and knows better than anyone the huge improvements we have made in recent years – renewing with him shows the belief we both have in the direction we are heading.”
The confirmation comes after Albon broke the record for starts with Williams at the Barcelona GP, with his 96th race for the team, surpassing Nigel Mansell. Four races later, in Hungary, he reached his 100th Grand Prix for the team.
Currently, Albon is 16th in the Drivers’ Championship, with five points, while Williams is ninth among the constructors.
It has not yet been confirmed whether Spanish driver Carlos Sainz will continue as the Thai driver’s teammate next year.
