Red Bull Racing had a difficult start in its first year as an official power unit manufacturer in Formula 1. Even without wins and only occupying fourth place in the constructors’ championship, the team has shown signs of progress in recent stages.

A survey conducted by RacingNews365 showed an almost perfect balance between those who consider the performance acceptable and those who expected more. Among the participants, 51.4% said that Red Bull should not be doing better this season, while 48.6% assessed that the team could deliver better results.
The team’s defense lies in the unprecedented nature of the project. This is the first season in which Red Bull competes with a power unit developed entirely in-house, with Red Bull Powetrains-Ford, after years using Honda engines. Before the start of the championship, team principal Laurent Mekies had already warned that expecting an immediate adaptation to the level of established manufacturers would be naive, as well as predicting difficulties, problems, and sleepless nights.
Even in this scenario, Red Bull has four podiums and shows a trajectory of growth. Max Verstappen finished in the top three in four of the last seven stages, including second places in Austria and Hungary, his best results so far.

On the other hand, the numbers also support the criticism. The team has 177 points, is 202 behind the leader Mercedes, and has accumulated five retirements in eleven races held so far this year. Verstappen described the season as ‘very difficult’ and emphasized that Red Bull ‘wants to win and dominate,’ not just occasionally achieve podiums.
The scenario, therefore, remains divided. The in-house manufacturer project has already established its foundations, but Red Bull’s evolution will depend on how quickly the team can transform this initial structure into more consistent performance and results.
