Kimi Antonelli repeated a strategy used by Max Verstappen during his first experiences outside Formula 1. The Italian participated in a kart race in Germany using the pseudonym “Franz Antonelli,” apparently referencing the false name adopted by his fellow professional.

Verstappen first used the name “Franz Hermann” in May last year, when he made his debut at the Nürburgring. The four-time world champion took part in the official test and preparation day of the NLS before the third round of the 2025 Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie season.
On that occasion, Verstappen drove a Ferrari 296 GT3 from Emil Frey Racing/Verstappen.com Racing. The pseudonym was displayed on the car itself during the Dutchman’s participation in the event, which marked the start of a journey that would later lead him to compete in the 24 Hours of Nürburgring.
Verstappen’s participation in the traditional race, however, ended frustratingly. The Dutchman retired after a technical problem, when he was in a controlling position in the race.

Now, with Formula 1 about to return to action for the Dutch GP, Antonelli took advantage of the last days away from the paddock to participate in a kart event in Germany. The championship leader entered the competition using the name “Franz Antonelli.”
The choice seems to directly reference the pseudonym “Franz Hermann,” used by Verstappen in his first appearances in German motorsport. Thus, Antonelli reproduced the strategy of the driver who currently leads the F1 title fight, this time seeking to participate in a kart activity discreetly during the category’s break.
