James Allison admitted that Mercedes is not as satisfied as it would like with the dominance it has shown at the start of the 2026 Formula 1 season.

The German team went into the summer break leading both championships, with Kimi Antonelli ahead in the Drivers’ Championship with a 50-point lead over Lewis Hamilton, while Mercedes leads with 72 points over the rest of the pack.
However, the technical director stated that the numbers do not tell the full story, as the team lost several points along the way due to breakdowns and technical failures. “It may sound a bit ungrateful, but I’m probably not as satisfied as I would like,” he said on the Nu Silver Arrows podcast.

“If someone had offered us this position before the start of the season, I would have accepted immediately. But, given the competitiveness of the car we have had this year, I think we should have scored more points than we have,” he continued.
“There is a certain degree of frustration about this throughout the team. At the same time, it means we are looking forward to the second half of the season and the opportunity to make up for some of those lost chances,” he added.
