Johnny Herbert explained what the biggest point of online criticism he receives is, saying that they are accusations that he is in favor of Lewis Hamilton in Formula 1 and that most of it comes from Max Verstappen fans.

The former driver was the main representative of England in the category in the 1990s before retiring in 2000. Afterwards, he embarked on the mission of being an FIA steward, although he has also retired from that role.
When asked which fan base he received the most virtual attacks from during his career, he said, “this is easy! The Dutch fans who didn’t like me questioning Max Verstappen. Actually, they weren’t just Dutch; there were people from other countries too. ‘Death to Herbert.’ They were the worst. They accuse me of being biased. They still do that with Martin Brundle.”

Herbert also dismissed that he favors Hamilton and that, despite being British like the seven-time champion, the analyses are objective. “They say: ‘You are biased in favor of Lewis Hamilton.’ Well, we are British, and Lewis is British! You are Dutch and support Max; you say we are biased, but you want us to support Max. You can’t want both.”
“Of course we will support a British driver, but our analysis is objective. We were also impressed with the ‘Flying Dutchman.’ If England were playing against the Netherlands in football, of course I would support England,” he concluded.
