The Briton put Mercedes in front, with Kimi Antonelli in second completing a team one-two, while Isack Hadjar surprised by taking Red Bull to third on the grid.

Gabriel Bortoleto will start tenth with Audi. The Brazilian advanced to Q3, but a car problem at the end of Q2 prevented his participation in the final phase of the session.
