Laurent Mekies highlighted a key area where he believes Red Bull can extract more performance in the second half of the 2026 Formula 1 season.

The Austrian team has struggled to find the way to victory this year. In fact, of the top four in the championship, it is the only one not to have won at least once.
In Austria, Max Verstappen came close to winning but finished behind George Russell; in Hungary, he was also second, but more than 15s behind Lando Norris.
Now, according to the French executive, Red Bull performs better when it has the right balance “On tracks where we manage to do this, we see an improvement in performance,” he said.
“It is about consistency in delivering performance, something that has been a recurring theme for us this season and which is probably where part of the potential for evolution lies for the second half of the year,” he continued.

Mekies also pointed out that the RB22 performs better when it is less sensitive to small factors. “I think our car has been very sensitive to various small factors since the first race, and we have suffered a lot in the first part of the season as well.”
“Just suffer a small damage, whether in the gravel or on the curbs, or catch a change in wind direction, and everything is on the edge in terms of performance. And it’s not just that we probably pay a price in lap time; it’s fair to say that it also takes away the driver’s confidence. That’s the reality,” he added.
“So, it’s not a new issue, but it’s something from which we can probably extract more potential,” he concluded.
