Max Verstappen decided to take a more humble stance when talking about the popularization of motorsport, and Formula 1, in the Netherlands, saying he does not want to take credit for it.

The Dutchman entered the category grid in 2015 at just 17 years old. Over the seasons, he developed and piled up numbers, records, and titles, quickly becoming the country’s main driver.
Also, in 2021, the same year as the four-time champion’s first title, Zandvoort returned to the calendar – but the Red Bull driver does not want to feel responsible for the comeback. “Well, I don’t want to say that all of this is because of me. I did my part,” he told Formule 1 Magazine.

“Above all, I think it’s great to see that motorsport is really alive in the Netherlands. Personally, I don’t need to take credit for that. Fortunately, there are also Dutch drivers who, overall, are doing well in various categories and making a big impact in Assen and Zandvoort. The sport is very much alive, and I think that’s excellent,” he continued.
When asked why he does not want to take credit, he pointed out that “I don’t need to go shouting it from the rooftops. And it’s not something important either. The most important thing is to see that motorsport is thriving now and that the kids dream about motorsport and Formula 1. Of course, Formula 1 is the pinnacle, but even below it, there are many fun things to do in motorsport.”
