Alonso’s future has been the subject of speculation during the current season. Amid a difficult championship, in which he has scored only one point up to the category’s break, the two-time world champion stated that he will make a decision about the next steps of his career during this rest period.

Asked about the Spaniard’s situation during the Hungarian GP weekend, Newey highlighted Alonso’s importance to the Aston Martin project: “Obviously, Fernando is an incredible driver. He brings a huge contribution to the team, both technically and through his capability,” he said. He then reinforced his expectation for the future: “For us, of course he is important. I am quite confident that Fernando is enjoying his time with us and that we will continue our relationship.”

Despite the statement, Newey did not confirm that this continuation necessarily means Alonso will remain as the team’s main driver. The Spaniard himself had already left open the possibility of continuing to compete in another category from 2027, while maintaining a link with Aston Martin in another role: “I haven’t made any decision yet. I will probably wait until the break, and then, around the race in Zandvoort or Monza, I should decide what I will do next year,” the Spaniard previously declared.

The two-time champion also assured that he does not intend to leave the tracks due to lack of motivation: “I will keep racing because I feel fast, motivated, and I love what I do. I won’t stop now because I don’t feel uncompetitive nor have I stopped enjoying racing,” he added.

Alonso also emphasized that his commitment to Aston Martin remains unchanged, regardless of whether he continues as the team’s driver. According to him, the project built over the past few years, including the partnership with Honda, Aramco, and the development of the Silverstone facility, gives him confidence that the team will compete for world titles in the future: “I want to win a championship with Aston Martin, whether driving or not. That commitment remains exactly the same,” he concluded.
