Fernando Alonso was encouraged by Aston Martin’s performance at the Hungarian GP after all the updates, now saying they are ‘in the middle’ of the Formula 1 midfield, but still need more performance from the Honda engine.

At Hungaroring, the Silverstone-based team brought no less than 16 updates. For the first time this year, the Spaniard made it to Q2, and both drivers finished the race, albeit outside the points zone – Lance Stroll achieved his best result of 2026 by finishing 13th.
“I think it was good to feel competitive again. And I believe that, especially at the start, we had the pace to more or less keep up with the midfield pack. That was positive and, hopefully, a good working base with this new car,” he said.

“Mainly regarding the engine, we are looking forward to Zandvoort and trying to gain a bit more competitiveness in straight-line speed; since we are fighting for positions in the race, we need that extra speed on the straights,” he continued.
“So, let this be a new beginning for us in this second half of the championship,” he concluded.
