Lewis Hamilton questioned Ferrari’s decision to bring him into the pit-stop during the virtual safety car period at the Hungarian Grand Prix in Formula 1.

The Briton was in third place when the race entered the final laps, but was promoted to second with Oscar Piastri’s retirement. However, the team called him into the pits for a set of soft tires, returning him to the track behind Max Verstappen.
Not only that, he was instructed to give the position back to Kimi Antonelli, as the replay showed the Italian was ahead at the pit lane exit line. “I’m not really sure why we stopped at the end. I got the instruction just before entering the pits, so I didn’t have time to discuss it,” he said.

“I would never have stopped if it meant giving up position on track. So, I thought that wouldn’t be the case. I think we probably would have lost the position to Max, he was on fresher tires, maybe in that last stint,” he continued.
“I could have held on to second place. He was closing in on me. But, most likely, it would have been third place, which would have been much better. Instead, I lost a lot of points. I was in second; I should have stayed out. I need to understand why the team called me into the pits,” he concluded.
