Lando Norris achieved his first victory of the 2026 Formula 1 season by winning the Hungarian GP this Sunday. The McLaren driver finished 15 seconds ahead of Max Verstappen, while Kimi Antonelli completed the podium and extended his championship lead.

The race at Hungaroring featured different strategies, lead changes, and a Virtual Safety Car. Norris overcame difficulties on the first lap, managed to extend his stints, and took advantage of Oscar Piastri’s retirement to become the fifth different winner of the year. “My pace today was one of the best I’ve ever had,” stated the Briton after returning to the top step of the podium.
Antonelli started only seventh after the penalty received in qualifying, but recovered ground and finished third. Mercedes even tried a one-stop strategy, but changed the plan due to tire wear. With the result, the Italian reached 219 points and opened a 50-point lead over Lewis Hamilton, who dropped to fifth after being penalized for speeding in the pit lane.

Gabriel Bortoleto came very close to scoring points again. The Brazilian started 14th, even occupied ninth position, and finished 11th after losing performance with the tires in the final laps. Nico Hülkenberg was ninth and scored his first points of the season, raising Audi to 12th in the Constructors’ Championship.
Off the track, F1 and the FIA confirmed an unusual solution for the calendar: the Bahrain GP will be held in Sepang, Malaysia, between October 2 and 4. The event still depends on final approvals but will retain the name Bahrain and will be contested between the Azerbaijan and Singapore GPs.
