Sergio Pérez will start the Formula 1 Hungarian GP from the pit lane. The decision was made after Cadillac altered the suspension setup of the Mexican’s car during parc fermé conditions.

According to the stewards’ document, the change was made without the approval of the technical delegate. The intervention violated articles B3.5.3a and B3.5.4 of the F1 regulations, which made a pit lane start mandatory.
The penalty, however, does not change the positions of the other drivers on the starting grid. Pérez had finished qualifying in last place and, therefore, would already start behind all opponents if he started normally.

The main difference will be the race start procedure. Instead of occupying the last spot on the grid, the Cadillac driver will remain in the pit lane and will only be able to enter the track after the pack has passed the pit exit.
The stewards noted that the alteration occurred on car number 11 during parc fermé, a period when configuration changes are restricted. The decision was published this Sunday morning, before the event at the Hungaroring.
