The 2026 Formula 1 season officially began with the Australian GP, held at the Albert Park circuit in Melbourne, and also marks the category’s return to TV Globo’s programming. For the championship opening, Grupo Globo prepared extensive coverage involving broadcasts on free-to-air TV, on sportv channels, and also on the Globoplay platform.

The first activities of the weekend began with free practice, while the race that opens the championship takes place in the early hours of Sunday, Brasília time. The event in Melbourne kicks off a new Formula 1 cycle, with important technical changes to the cars and high expectations surrounding the teams and drivers.
In Brazil, full coverage of the activities is handled by sportv3, which broadcasts 100% of the weekend’s sessions, including FP1, FP2, FP3, qualifying, and the race. The channel also provides the broadcast in 4K signal. In Melbourne, all sessions feature narration by Bruno Fonseca.
During practice and qualifying, Bruno Fonseca shares the broadcast with commentators Rafael Lopes, Luciano Burti, and Mariana Becker, who follows the activities directly from the Albert Park circuit. In the race, Bruno and Rafael also welcome the participation of Christian Fittipaldi in the analysis.
On free-to-air TV, Globo broadcasts 15 stages of the 2026 Formula 1 season live, including the race that opens the championship. The Australian GP race will be shown right after the ‘Altas Horas’ program, with narration by Everaldo Marques and commentary by Luciano Burti and Mariana Becker. Reporting is handled by Guilherme Pereira. The broadcast begins about 45 minutes before the start.
Everaldo Marques, who takes over Formula 1 narration on Globo in this return of the category to the broadcaster, has a long-standing relationship with motorsport. The narrator recalled his trajectory covering the category while commenting on the challenge of narrating races.
“Motorsport is one of the most difficult and challenging modalities to narrate. I have to tell many stories at the same time and pay attention to everything that happens, because often there are important battles off-screen,” stated Everaldo.
Another important novelty for the season is Mariana Becker’s new role in the broadcasts. In her twentieth season following Formula 1, she also begins acting as a commentator, although she remains present at the circuits throughout the year.
“This year will be revolutionary for Formula 1. The cars have changed a lot compared to last season, so it will be challenging for us to understand these changes and explain everything to the audience,” stated Mariana. “I will continue traveling and following everything closely, talking to people on the grid and seeking information directly behind the scenes.”

In addition to traditional broadcasts, Grupo Globo has also prepared technological innovations for Formula 1 coverage. Two studios were set up for the broadcasts, one dedicated to TV Globo and the new ‘Grid da Globo’ program, and another exclusive to sportv.
The studio used for free-to-air TV broadcasts will feature a structure inspired by a Formula 1 team’s pit box. The space includes a large LED screen, additional monitors, and even a full-size replica of a category car, allowing for the explanation of technical details and the new regulations.
Meanwhile, the sportv studio uses Virtual Production technology with LED panels and a camera tracking system, creating a visual effect that follows the broadcast’s movements. The structure also integrates augmented reality features to show data about tracks, tires, and drivers.
Globoplay also gains extra features for the season. The platform will offer an additional signal with an interactive mosaic that brings together three different feeds during broadcasts: the main race, onboard cameras, and a map with the drivers’ positions on the track in real-time.
Another programming novelty is the debut of the ‘Grid da Globo’ program, which airs on the Fridays preceding each race weekend shown on free-to-air TV. The program will be hosted by Alessandro Jodar and will feature the participation of Caio Castro and Antonella Bassani, bringing analysis and explanations about the Formula 1 universe.
“Our challenge is to present motorsport to everyone, including those who don’t know Formula 1 very well yet,” explained Caio Castro. “We want to show in a didactic way what happens in the races and help the audience better understand this sport.”
With expanded broadcasts, new program formats, and additional technological resources, Grupo Globo is betting on reinforced coverage to mark Formula 1’s return to the broadcaster and closely follow the entire 2026 season.
