The FIA released the document with the updates declared by the teams for the Formula 1 Hungarian GP, at the Hungaroring. The material shows Aston Martin as the main highlight in terms of new features, with a comprehensive package of 16 items. McLaren, Mercedes, Red Bull, Racing Bulls, and Ferrari also presented updates for the Budapest stage, while Alpine declared no new features.

The general reading of the document is different from what was seen at the Belgian GP. At Spa-Francorchamps, teams were more focused on reducing drag and gaining efficiency on the straights. For the Hungaroring, a tighter circuit with many corners and fewer high-speed sections, the focus shifts to generating downforce, car balance in low and medium-speed corners, and cooling.

Aston Martin was the team that attracted the most attention. The team declared 16 updates, forming a package that affects practically all important areas of the car. The changes involve the front wing, the front wing endplate, the nose, the front assembly, the floor, the internal floor strakes, the floor edge, the diffuser, the sidepod inlet, the engine cover, the cooling outlets, the rear suspension, the rear assembly, the rear wing, the beam wing, and the rear wing endplate.

In practice, Aston Martin brought a complete package to try and increase the car’s downforce. The front was reworked to improve the initial airflow behavior, while changes to the floor and diffuser aim to increase the aerodynamic pressure generated on the underside of the car. At the rear, alterations to the suspension, rear assembly, rear wing, and beam wing indicate an attempt to better integrate the entire package.

McLaren also appears with a relevant set of updates. The team declared five new features: rear wing, floor, front assembly, front brake cooling outlet, and rear assembly. The package combines the pursuit of more downforce with attention to cooling, which is important on a track with low average speed, where there is less natural airflow to cool components.

Mercedes brought three updates to Budapest. The team made changes to the rear wing, the engine cover, and a small aerodynamic piece in the central rear region of the car. The objective is to increase aerodynamic support in proportion to the characteristics of the Hungaroring, as well as to improve cooling through a larger rear outlet on the bodywork.

Red Bull also declared three changes. The team updated elements of the rear wing, the floor in the diffuser area, and a rear wing configuration aimed at generating more downforce. The message is clear: for Hungary, the team sought more support, especially at the rear, without losing stability in the airflow.

Racing Bulls presented three updates. The team made changes to the upper air inlet, the rear wing, and the cooling vents. The package combines aerodynamic gain with increased cooling capacity, a common necessity on tight circuits with many low-speed zones.

Ferrari declared two updates, both related to the rear wing. The team presented a new design for the wing elements and the endplate, focusing on increasing rear downforce more consistently. The document also indicates the possibility of using an additional set of small winglets, aimed at generating more support, albeit with a loss of aerodynamic efficiency.

Williams also brought two new features, on the rear wing and the floor. The changes are specific to the Hungaroring and aim to increase downforce at the rear of the car. Haas declared an update to the rear wing, also with a focus on more aerodynamic support.

Audi, Gabriel Bortoleto’s team, presented a specific update. The change is on the rear wing endplate and aims to generate local downforce gain, contributing to the car’s overall efficiency. Cadillac also declared a new feature, in the front assembly, aimed at brake cooling. Alpine, however, did not present any updates in the FIA technical document for this stage.

The Hungarian GP usually requires a car with good aerodynamic support, good traction, and the ability to maintain stability through a sequence of corners. Therefore, the FIA document shows a clear trend: teams sought more downforce and better cooling, in contrast to the focus on drag reduction seen on high-speed tracks.
