Andrea Stella commented on the accident involving Charles Leclerc and Oscar Piastri on the first lap of the Formula 1 Belgian GP, especially regarding the decision of the stewards not to punish the Ferrari driver.

While Lewis Hamilton received a 5-second penalty for a touch with George Russell at the start in Spa-Francorchamps, the Monegasque escaped unscathed after a collision with the Australian McLaren driver on the Kemmel straight.
“I will have to review which elements were taken into account by the stewards, and if the determining factor here is the relative position between Oscar’s front axle and Leclerc’s car,” said Stella.

“I think that, in any case, when cars remain side by side for so long, we must ensure that the car that is not on the ideal line, by defending the inside, leaves enough space; after all, if there is uncontrolled contact, the crash will be very hard,” he continued.
“Therefore, I believe there may be lessons to be learned from this case, but to comment further, I will need to read the decision and analyze the case personally,” he added.
