Toto Wolff hopes that George Russell will soon feel better about his 2026 Formula 1 campaign, after the Briton said he feels ‘numb’ following another stroke of bad luck at Sunday’s (19) Belgian GP.

After retiring at Spa-Francorchamps still in the first lap, Russell said he almost feels numb from the disappointments, saying that the many incidents in the races have already made him used to dealing with frustrations.
Therefore, the Austrian team principal said he understands the driver’s emotional reaction. “You have to understand that the driver gets very emotional when these situations happen,” he said.

“But, on the other hand, as a Formula 1 driver, you are part of an elite group. I think it is a great honor to drive a Mercedes. Sometimes we disappoint ourselves — and the responsibility is the driver’s, but it is also ours,” he continued.
The Mercedes boss also spoke about the important points lost in the Constructors’ Championship battle against Ferrari, hoping that Russell’s feeling of discouragement will soon disappear. “These are valuable points for the Constructors that we lost in our fight against Ferrari. So, I hope this feeling of discouragement passes. We will try to help restore optimism and positivity,” he concluded.
